Well one of my little sicklings is much better. Cason finally stopped running a fever on Monday afternoon and he is feeling better, eating better, and has gotten his energy back. They called us yesterday afternoon to let us know that Cason's strep culture came back negative. So his VERY high fever was from a viral infection, not from strep. They want us to keep him on the antibiotics anyway since he was exposed to strep that way he can stay well.
Poor Corbin has had a rough weekend. First, he had shots on Friday, then strep throat/scarlet fever on Saturday, Sunday his rash was gone and he was feeling a little better, and then on Monday he caught big brother's virus and started running a fever. Corbin ran a fever most of Monday and then Tuesday morning around 3:00 am he woke up with a fever of 103---poor baby! He's been very fussy and running a high fever so we took him to our regular doctor's office this morning. They said it looks like he caught big brother's virus and then on top of that his left ear is very infected. Dr. G told us that Corbin had fluid in his ears on Friday when we were there but they weren't infected yet and he didn't want to put him on antibiotics unless he had to because of what happened last time with the penicillin. When we were at the after hours place on Saturday, the doctor told us there was still fluid in his ears and that his left ear was very red and starting to get infected. She said the antibiotics that she was putting him on for the strep would clear up his ears as well. Well apparently the antibiotics they put us on are very effective for strep but sometimes not effective on ear infections and in Corbin's case they didn't help his ear infection at all so it continued to get worse. So they switched our antibiotic today and hopefully this one will clear up his ears and continue to clear up the strep-----AND we pray that he does not have an allergic reaction to it. Poor baby feels awful!!!
Oh and both sicklings have upset tummies from their antibiotics---it's a real party over at our house---LOL

Strep Throat
We are currently experiencing our first bout with strep throat in our house (for the kids). We went to our well visits on Friday and both kids were in perfect health. By Saturday mid-morning things began to change quickly. Cason started running a fever around 10:00 am and acting like he felt horrible. He just wanted to be held constantly which is VERY unlike him. We gave him some Tylenol and figured he just picked up something viral while we were at the doctor's office on Friday. That would be our luck to go in for a well visit and come out sick!!!
Shortly after Cason started running a fever, we noticed Corbin was breaking out in a rash all over. After his penicillin reaction, we didn't want to waste any time getting him seen. We thought he was having a reaction to his shot he got the day before or from the new formula. The doctor had us switch his one bottle a day of formula to soy because he thinks he is sensitive to dairy. So Cason stayed home with Scott and I took Corbin to the pediatric after hours place. Turns out that he wasn't having an allergic reaction all all (the rash didn't look like his hives did after the penicillin). The rash was scarlet fever---which is a rash you get most often when you have strep throat. She did a strep test and sure enough it was positive.
In the meantime Cason is at home getting worse and even got so worked up at one point that he vomited all over the carpet in his bedroom (we had to go out and buy a steam cleaner last night). The doctor told me I needed bring Cason in to get him tested as well. So I headed home and traded children with Scott. He took Corbin and I took Cason back to the after hours place. Cason still had fever and he throat was very red and swollen. The strep test didn't come back positive but she said that she was 99% sure that was what it was. She said sometimes it takes up to 48 hours to show up on a strep test. So they sent a culture off for Cason and we should get the results on Tuesday since Monday is a holiday. She said that his throat was red and swollen, he had fever, and vomiting and those are all symptoms of strep (plus Corbin tested positive) so they went ahead and gave us a prescription for antibiotics for Cason as well.
We gave both kids Motrin before bed and Cason woke up about 1:00. When I went in there he was burning up so I took his temperature and it was 103.5!!! After lots of coaxing, I finally got him to take some more medicine and we gave him a luke warm bath. An hour later it was 103.7 so we were very worried! Thankfully it started coming down after that and we were able put him back to bed. He woke up at 7:00 this morning. with 103.5 again! He didn't want to take any medicine but I finally got it down him and he immediately threw it back up---all over me. After some bribery, we got him to take his medicine and drink some liquids. It hasn't gotten that high again but he has had a fever all day. He has just felt HORRIBLE for the past two days. Corbin doesn't act like he feels as bad as Cason but neither child is eating hardly anything at all (we can't even get Cason to eat a popsicle). Hopefully the antibiotics will help them feel better VERY SOON.

Corbin, you are 9 months old--what have you been up to this month?

*After a month and a half of army crawling, you finally started crawling on your hands and knees on May 22nd:

As soon as Dr. G walked in the room, you started singing your ABC's at the top of your lungs--it was hilarious. You told Dr. G all your colors and shapes and you just talked and talked. He wrote very "talkative" on your report card--LOL. You are off the charts for your weight--you are a very big boy! You kept telling them you wanted a shot (you didn't have to get any this visit) so we let you watch Corbin get his shot and you QUICKLY changed your mind. Dr. G gave you a high five and knuckles when he was leaving and when you gave him knuckles you said "What up, dude"---it was hilarious---your daddy taught you that. Here are your stats:
---Weight 41.8 pounds (over the 100%)
---Height 39.8 inches (97%)
*You wear size 4T clothing
*You wear size 9 or 9.5 wide or extra wide shoes

Outdoor Play Time
The weather has been so nice for playing outside. Cason was playing with his "Cloud Dough" and Corbin was hanging out on a blanket.
It is almost impossible to keep Corbin on his blanket now---he just army crawls right off. They both love being outdoors. We are going to enjoy it as much as possible before it gets to be unbearably hot.
Birthday Fun
The Harrisons and the Kempsons came over to play a couple of weeks ago to celebrate Cason and Madi's birthdays. The kids had fun eating pizza and playing outside. Cason loves all his girlfriends!!!
Eating Puffs
Corbin has started eating Puffs the last couple of weeks and he LOVES them. He can pick them up but he has trouble with releasing them---so he will hold them in his fingers and suck on them a lot of the time. He is getting better each day though. He's such a cutie :)
