We went back to see Cason's ENT doctor on Monday for a check-up. The doctor had to take Cason's left tube out of his ear because it was already falling out and therefore not working properly. This time was MUCH less dramatic---no tears involved. So now Cason is officially tube free.
Even though Cason's ears are not currently infected, there is still some fluid in his right ear. This fluid was around from about birth until 1 year when he got his tubes and then disappeared when we had the tubes and then reappeared a couple of months ago after his right tube was removed. Cason has had several ear infections this spring which is the cause for this residual fluid. The doctor said he wants to wait until the end of July to see if the fluid clears up on its own. If the fluid does not clear up on its own OR if we have any more ear infections between now and the end of July----we will be booked for a second set of tubes. As a mom, I certainly worry about my child going in to have surgery again, but I am all for another set of tubes if that will clear up the fluid in his ears and help with his ear infections. The last couple of ear infections in his right ear (without his tube) have been very hard on him and I hate to see him so miserable. In addition to the fact that fluid in your ears causes temporary hearing loss (he hears us muffled) and could possibly lead to permanent hearing loss and speech problems. So I am hoping for good news at the end of July but even if there is still fluid and we have to get another set, I am fine with that too.
In other news, we braved the line at In-N-Out burger the other day against our better judgement. Thankfully, we went early and only had to wait about 30-40 minutes in the car (thank goodness for our Elmo DVD). To our surprise, Cason loved his burger. They do not have kid size burgers so we had to get him an adult size burger. I cut it in half and gave it to him with all the "fixings" on it and he ate almost the entire burger. He did NOT want it cut up into little pieces, he wanted to eat it just like mom and dad were. The burger was good (they have a really good sauce) and the fries were not so great. I definitely won't be visiting the place often. When we go eat fast food, we actually need it to be FAST.
