Isn't she precious....

We went to the hospital late on Saturday evening (October 4th) with contractions. They were not extremely painful but they had never been so close together. They started about 7 minutes apart and then when they got to 5 minutes apart consistently for an hour, we knew that we needed to at least go get checked out at the hospital per my doctors orders. Thankfully, our sweet neighbor Suzie was able to come down and watch our boys until my mom got here from Tyler---thank you Suzie!!!!

By the time we go to the hospital, they were about 3 minutes apart but the nurse did not think I was in active labor. They called my doctor (thankfully she was on call that weekend) and my doctor told them to not send me home and she would be in to see me the next morning. They gave me some medicine to stop the contractions (they said that if I was in active labor it would not work) and an Ambien. We stayed overnight and although I continued to have contractions, they slowed down considerably and they were not painful.

They called my doctor the next morning (October 5th) and they decided to go ahead and start me on Pitocin around 10:45. The contractions picked up but they were not painful or consistent over the next hour. Around 11:45 my doctor came in and checked me (dilated to a 4) and broke my water. Instantly the contractions became VERY painful. They figured I would dilate around 1 cm per hour and would probably be ready to have the baby in about 5-6 hours.

My doctor said I could have an epidural whenever I wanted and that the anesthesiologist was just sitting in the hallway with no other patients at the moment. After about 3 more painful contractions, I decided I wanted the epidural stat! Scott went to tell them I wanted the epidural and unfortunately the guy had gotten called into a c-section so they told me it would be around 20 more minutes before I could get one. The contractions got MUCH more painful and so close together that I only had about 10 seconds after one ended before the next one began. I kept sending Scott into the hallway to check on my epidural---it had been well over 20 minutes (I was watching the clock very impatiently). The nurse had not checked me again because I think they thought I couldn't possibly have progressed that much in that short amount of time. They did slow my Pitocin down but it didn't really help.

By the time the guy FINALLY came to my room, it was not a pretty sight. I was in a lot of pain and I was dry heaving into a plastic bag. The nurse still had not checked me but I knew it was time to have the baby! I kept asking the anesthesiologist how fast could he get the epidural in and when would it start working??? He finally got the epidural in and the nurse checked me and of course I was already  a 10 and it was time to push. I can't believe things progressed so quickly this time! Thankfully, she did not check me until after I had the epidural or they probably would have told me it was too late. The epidural helped for sure but it did not work like it had before---they told me it was because I got it too late in the process. My doctor got there in about 15 minutes and in one contraction (3 pushes) Miss Chloe was here at 1:59 pm.

They were joking when they took the epidural out (about 20 minutes after I got it put in) that it was one of the shortest times they had seen an epidural stay in.

I'm so thankful everything went well and that Chloe was completely healthy---such a blessing!
