Corbin's Surgery

We went to see an ENT last week because poor Corbin has pretty much had a nonstop ear infection since mid January. Every time we finish an anti-biotic we would just have to start another one. Our pediatrician told us we were on the strongest one and that since we couldn't get it cleared up we would probably need tubes. Corbin has only had one previous ear infection (when he was 6 months old) before January so we were just so shocked that he was suddenly having such bad ear problems. With Cason, he had ear problems starting from when he was very young so we knew he would have to get tubes but we thought we were in the clear with Corbin---we were wrong. When they did his hearing test, she said she had to turn up the volume several times for him and one of his ears was showing no vibration at all and the other had very little---not good. The doctor saw lots of fluid in his ears and said that the fluid was what was causing the hearing problems. The solution----ear tubes of course.

He said that since we have a family history of ear problems, he wanted to check his adenoids during surgery and see if they needed to be removed. So after they put the tubes in, they took a picture of his adenoids. The doctor said they were covering over 75% of his airway so they needed to come out. Poor Corbin had tubes and his adenoids taken out on Friday. He was SOOOOO mad when he woke up from anesthesia!!! We could not get him to calm down. Finally, the nurse had to give him some extra pain medicine and he still wouldn't calm down. She was just about to put some additional medicine in his IV (a sedative) and he calmed down thankfully. I thought Cason was so mad when coming out of anesthesia but Corbin was much worse! Thankfully, after a good nap Corbin was doing much better. Hopefully, when we go back for our 6 week post op appointment, his hearing will be back to normal.
