I was NOT a fan of all the salt---the finished dough felt too grainy for my taste. However, I'm beginning to wonder if I made it wrong because it seems that almost all the playdough recipes call for 1/2 cup salt---so maybe I just messed it up?????
So I tried another recipe that called for hardly any salt at all. I really liked this recipe and the dough turned out really nice and pliable. But you do have to work in a lot of extra flour at the end to take the stickiness out of the playdough. If you don't mind doing that, then this is a great recipe for you. I made this one with blue jello for smell, blue food coloring for extra color, and blue glitter for a little sparkle.
I liked that recipe but I wanted to find one that didn't require extra work at the end, so I tried this one next. I made this one with orange food coloring and pumpkin spice for smell.
I really like how this one turned out. It's not quite as pliable as the previous recipe but it still works great. Some tips I have read about since then is adding a little glycerin to make it more pliable and using baby oil in place of vegetable oil. So I definitely plan on trying out those tips and I also want to give this recipe a try next time:
Making homemade playdough it actually SO easy and the possibilities are endless with different colors, different smells, different types of glitter, etc! I can't wait to make some fun playdough for Christmas :)
