Play dates and Penicillin

We enjoyed getting to have some much needed play time with the Harrisons and the Kempsons---Cason and Corbin love their girlfriends!!!

A couple of weeks ago Cason got an ear infection and a few days later I had to take Corbin to the doctor for one as well. They put Corbin on amoxicillin and on day 7 of his antibiotic he woke up with hives. I took him right in to the doctor thinking he probably had a food allergy----I had no idea it could be his antibiotic because we were on day 7 before the hives started. They said that is completely normal for it to take kids a few days to start showing the symptoms of an allergic reaction to their antibiotic---not everyone has an immediate reaction to the medicine.  Little Corbin is apparently allergic to penicillin like his daddy. They told us to start taking Benadryl every 6 hours and sent us home.

The next morning he looked much worse and had started to swell. I called the nurse line several times that morning. I told them the hives were worse and they said that was normal for an allergic reaction and that the rash would probably get worse before it got better as the medicine worked its way out of his system, then I called to tell them some of the hives were turning purple and they said that could also be a normal symptom of an allergic reaction, then at 2:00 I called to tell them his feet and hands were turning purple and were VERY swollen---they told us to come right in immediately. They said that he had some rare form of hives that caused all the swelling/turning purple----I can't remember the name of it but the doctor told me to NOT go home and google it. They had to start Corbin on steroids for 5 days and he got MUCH better after that. Now his hives are almost completely gone. No more penicillin for my little guy!

I took these pictures on the second day when it started to get worse. I don't have any pictures of him after he started turning purple and swelling----I was too freaked out to take any pictures at that point. You can see in these pictures that his feet and hands were already starting to swell. Poor baby---he was miserable!
